Every couple of days, sometimes more often, I will post a review on a Kindle book, novella, or short story. Quite often, these will be ‘Indie’ books. Readers will hopefully discover many works they have not known existed. My posts will include Reviews, additional commentary, conversations with authors, and Honorable Mentions.I review many different genres, but do tend to stay in fiction and away from romance.——————————————My reviews us… More >>

Red Adept devours Indie literature! I find her reviews well-written and thoughtful. She follows a very detailed review system and I can’t thank her enough for the time that she has devoted to the works of fellow indie authors and myself.

I have to state up front that Red has reviewed all of the books I’ve written under my own name; one was recently profiled on her blog, the others have been straight Amazon reviews. Out of four novels, only one rated 5 stars with her; where other writers might complain about getting a 3 star review, I will not. (Hey, I’ll be honest and say it can sting…everyone wants 5 stars.) She judged it in comparison to my first two books, and as the third in a series she found it just a little bit less satisfying than the first…and as reviewing is subjective, I don’t ave a problem with that.
Red Adept is fair in the way she reviews the books she has read; she states clearly why she ranks books the way she does, and is open about the criteria she uses to assign ratings. A 3 star review from Red doesn’t mean your book was awful; she may have really enjoyed it, but it simply did not meet her fairly strict criteria to get that 5 star rating.
I’ve been reading her review blog from the beginning, and I have to say, I’m finding books I otherwise would have overlooked. She’s giving independent writers and publishers exposure they otherwise might never get, and that’s always a good thing.

I am currently within the 14 day free trial of this blog and it is the first blog I have subscribed to on Kindle (besides the amazon one of course). I like that she reviews books that I have not heard of previously. The reviews themselves are interesting. I wish that when you click on the link on the Kindle it would take you to the Kindle store. There were a few books I wanted to check out from her reviews but will have to look into them later. Thanks Red for posting your reviews. I think I will keep my subscription. I have liked having a new post pop up whenever I turn on whispernet!

I first became aware of Red Adept several months ago through a well written review she did. It was not a favorable review of a book, but caught my attention because of what she brought to it: honesty and integrity. I wouldn’t say I was blown away by her writing style -it is not terribly zippy and acerbic – qualities that tend to detract and make the reviewer the star of the piece. But the review did what she intended it to do – analyze and describe a book clearly and precisely.
I didn’t buy the book.
There is so much available from indi writers. In this blog, Red Adept is providing an appreciated service. I did some of the same for the likes of Dustin Hoffman and others back in the 80’s. Contrary to popular thought, rarely do actors, directors or producers have time to plough through the hundreds of scripts that come their way, so people like me were brought in to do some of the initial work of sifting through the mess. With Dusty, I got lucky and am credited with finding the original script written by Barry Marrow that became the hit movie “Rain Man.” I believed in the initial (but highly flawed) script that I ended up pitching the concept to Hoffman (and to Tom Cruise a month later) and worked with Barry Levinson a year later when the writer’s strike was in full force. The rest you know. Red is providing a similar service: I’m becoming aware of books that I would never, ever, come across on my own.
Many independent authors have the best of intentions, but have limited resources. Sometimes they need somebody like Red Adept to say, “OK, the plot is good, but your grammar is terrible! Get to work, have somebody proof it.” If the author has an ounce of intelligence, he or she will take this as an opportunity to improve, rewrite, rethink and resubmit.
The format I see in Red’s Blog is solid and I look forward to seeing how she expands the concept. Good work, so far!

Red Adept’s Kindle Book Review Blog is excellent! I’m not sure I could say why without repeating what the majority of other reviewers here have already stated….but it bears repeating so here goes:
I believe both readers and authors will benefit from this blog. Red Adept’s Blog is a fantastic source of information and honest, insightful reviews for both lesser-known independent authors of books available on Kindle and well-known/best-selling, traditionally published authors. This blog hits on books of many genres and helps get the word out for independent authors. Readers are exposed to books (usually at super-low bargain prices) they might not have otherwise have discovered.
Red Adept’s reviews are delivered in a fair and concise manner. The system/policies she follows in developing her reviews and ratings are explained in her blog. Readers can then form their own opinions. Author’s, like anyone else, can surely often benefit from an objective opinion and constructive criticism. I also enjoy reading the comments and feedback that come directly from the authors….fantastic!
As others have stated, sometimes something Red Adept liked or disliked about a book is exactly why YOU may like or dislike that same book – for either the same or opposing reason. Before Red started this blog, she often posted book reviews on Amazon. Many times, I had found and read the same book before she did (or at least posted about it) and many times I was thrilled to be alerted to a wonderful gem of a book I had not yet discovered. I found myself agreeing with just about all of her reviews. Sometimes she would she pick up on something in a book we both read that I had either missed or thought of differently and I liked gleaning a different POV. Whether I had read a particular book before or after seeing her review, I found our reading preferences and selections were about an 80% match. Enough so that if I am on the fence about getting a particular book (before or after reading a sample), I will then use Red Adept’s review to gain more info and insight into the book – details, facts, and commentary you won’t find on the book’s sale page. I have not been sorry, yet, in any of my purchases based on or guided by her reviews, and in fact, would have missed out on a few really good reads, if not for her. I have also saved some money and time buying and reading something I feel certain I would have absolutely disliked and/or not have finished. I think many readers can make better buying choices, too, thanks to Red Adept.
Now, I doubt anyone enjoys books from every single genre out there so you can’t expect Red Adept do to so either. Don’t most of you have some DTB’s you couldn’t get into or disliked and never finished and either put them aside or gave them away? Since getting a kindle three months ago, I am beginning to experiment and read books not in my already diversified list of genre favorites. I praise Red Adept’s willingness to try new things, and while some books/genres may not be to her taste, she can still recognize a well-written or badly-developed story and post Honorable Mentions when unable to read the book and write a full review. Again, fairness and more book exposure. (Think of it this way: you many not like a singer’s particular style or song choice, but you still recognize that they are talented singers.)
Finally, having book reviews, honorable mentions, author comments, and other related features all in one place and well organized is just wonderful. I am ecstatic to not have to spend valuable time searching forum pages and posts scattered about to get this kind of credible, valuable, and useful information. To be able to get it on my Kindle, anytime, with easy access (if not home and at my pc) is well worth such a minimal monthly blog charge. THANK YOU, Red Adept!!! Again, many, many thanks for all that you read, review, and work hard to make available to us!!!
